Rossella Scivales: the natural charm of design

From 24 to 27 January the city of Milan hosted HOMI, a new home décor fair organized as a meeting place between the Italian design tradition and the rest of the world. A lot of young Italian start up and companies attended the fair with the possibility of showing new beautiful hand-made items for the houses of all the furniture lovers. Edonart had the pleasure of attending at this new event to discover and select new talent designers to collaborate with and to find new amazing products with a high quality.

Between all the participants Edonart had the pleasure to meet Rossella Scivales, a young Italian designer and architect who creates stunning lamps with natural elements that she finds in nature. With her creations Rossella allows to these pieces of wood to begin a second life and she creates a narration between the object and its story.

At Homi, Edonart had the opportunity to know better Rossella and to understand her creations, so we believe that her project and story reflect what Edonart is.

Let’s start telling who is Rossella Scivales. She was born in Brindisi, Apulia, where she spent her childhood between the Salento’s landscape, a beautiful place where the huge coastline meets the rural landscapes of the hinterland with long expanse of cultivated olive trees land. Rossella grown with the passion for art and architecture so she decided to move to Milan to study at the University of Architecture.

After the graduation she worked for some years at the design and restoration of real estate but her biggest passion is the interior design so she decided to dedicate herself completely to this. She decided to combine her love for interior design and the love for her land, to nature and her origin deciding to enhance the main product of her land, the olive tree.She starts to design and to create wood furniture, using the olive wood. At the beginning she created customizable stools with interchangeable backrest, then she started to design her lamps.

For the creation and production of the lamps she uses olive trunks from Apulia, trunks that would be bits and pieces, or she uses the beautiful white wood clutching and found along the seaside after a “long journey where it has undergone a series of transformations by water and air”.Every trunk expresses its own story to Rossella, a story which she expresses through her manual skill and creativity that allows her to feel the wood using it like an instrument. With her hand the wood changes its “character”, grain and softness until she finds the perfect shape transforming from a simple piece of wood to a beautiful masterpiece that lights up and furnishing every space and home. These items are perfect for every art and nature lovers.

Rossella looks for the wood that she transforms in masterpieces with care and passion, because every piece of wood has to be strong and one of the most important thing “they must have lived”
